No, it's an accurate description for people who indulge in irrelevant
nit-picking.

Precise enough for the purpose of the subject under discussion.


This discussion misses one point:

If the GLC was, say, Conservative controlled due to the outer boroughs
being Tory, it was entirely possible for ILEA to be Labour controlled
(inner boroughs and borough councillors being LAbour).


This means that the 'pedantic' nature of the GLC/ILEA isn't so
pedantic!
