Unusual sight on Blackfriars bridge

Just saw a Network Rail test train go over the bridge southbound, top
and tailed with a pair of class 37s. Not sure if they came up the
incline from City Thameslink. Probably was quite a loud event if they
did, pity I missed it.

They reversed at Blackfriars; the route (IIRC but ICBW) was Selhurst -
Blackfriars (went to Victoria instead as the paperwork for allowing
37/6s across the bridge had not been approved, allegedly) - Hayes -
Blackfriars - Cannon Street- Blackfriars - Clapham Junction -
Blackfriars - Tulse Hill - Clapham Junction - Kensington Olympia -
Clapham Jn - Selhurst. Made for some interesting pix in the Cannon
Street - Blackfriars area. AFIAA, only 33s and 73s are allowed through
the Thameslink tunnels and beyond as far as Kentish Town.

Is that the one that was in Cambridge on Monday night? Topped and tailed
by 37607 & 37069.

AIUI it ran Derby RTC - St Pancras - Cricklewood - South Tottenham -
Liverpool Street - Cambridge (booked 14.47) - King's Lynn - Cambridge
(booked 17.18), and then stabled overnight. I've not seen any Tuesday
details.

Whats the reason for the restriction , is it loading gauge or
gradiants or something else entirely?

ISTR it's carriage length, because of the sharp curve around St Pancras.

Probably the same one that I saw yesterday at Clapham Junction and today
at Peckham Rye.

With these things taking all kinds of unusual routes, how do they cope
with the need for the driver to have route knowledge? Keep changing
drivers all over the place?

Perhaps theres some low maximum speed and train weight below which a
driver can drive any route because he'll be able to pull up before he
reaches any red signal after first seeing it?

If I recall right, there were only certain class 31s allowed to haul the
trains through hotel curve to Kings Cross for a similar reason.
