The Major is trying to find the best bus route in London. Why? Im not
exactly sure.

Why not? It's been done before

Being done before is no justification that it should be done again.

Perhaps CJG was pondering that there were more important questions to be
answered before the "best bus route" one. Like for example "Why is there so
much vandalism on buses south of the river?".

God, you're a miserable so-and-so aren't you?

Why not try to get the Oscars cancelled, on the basis that they done
that before too?

I don't think he has sufficient cognitive powers.

Having an award to recognise good service can help staff morale;
passengers can think about how they define a good service and TfL get an
idea of what passenger's priorities are.

Yes, you could achieve the latter two with a boring old survey - but why
not have a bit of fun and give an award at the same time.

No. I just couldn't resist replying because it's you Dave :-)

I didn't say the competition should be cancelled. I was pointing out that
the reason of "It's been done before" is flaky.

Perhaps CJG was pondering that there were more important questions to be

Sorry, you lost me with that one.

Yes, all perfectly valid and I would agree.

But, just going back to part of my original post, there is a major problems
with vandalism on buses in south London and the surrounding areas. Someone
needs to get on top of this. IMO, this is a much more important issue than
finding out what the "best" bus route is. I appreciate you may not agree.

I don't agree.

We don't live in a perfect world. Millions of pounds of 'public' money
(from the lottery 'tax') is used to pay to keep some second-rate work of
art in this country. Meanwhile the NHS crumbles. Blah, blah, etc, etc.

What's wrong with little light-hearted competition, that might (just
might) cheer-up a few demoralised staff. By scrapping the award, how
much money will TfL save and how will that help?
