Anyone know why it's taking so long to get the SSL back into operation
(stil suspended as of 1040, compared with the BCV which have been
pretty much OK since 0830ish)?

They're upset about the strike being called off , so they've gone on
strike about it.

INspections, I would guess - normally done overnight, not been done
since Sunday night.

Given that this is the RMT, it's safe to say that until they say it's
definitely off, it's still on.

Sure, but why wasn't that a problem for the BCV lines (also Metronet,
also closed yesterday) as well?

Wouldn't've thought that inspectors from one line are qualified to
work on others - otherwise Metronet could have borrowed some from Tube
Lines and there wouldn't have been so much of a problem. ICBW, though.

Is it possible that track inspections of the tunnel sections were done
by non-RMT Metronet staff some time between Monday evening and this
morning? The SSL lines are less secure, so inspections had to be done
today, but the staff who normally work nights to do that may not have
been available for some hours, if at all today. (Presumably their
shifts normally start before the end of the strike was announced.)

Just a theory.

Latest quote from BBC:

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said they now had the assurances, they had
been seeking, in writing from the employer.
However, he warned a 72 hour strike planned for next Monday remained,
pending the outcome of further talks.

"The three days of strike action is on next week," he told BBC News 24.

"Our view the deal we have got is the best possible but if these people from
Transport for London keep on going round and trying to rubbish us then it's
their fault if the strike takes place next week again."
