Lighting Blackwall Tunnel
I'm concerned about the lighting in the underpass just before the
tunnel coming south. At around 17.00 when the sun is shining I find I can see nothing for a couple of seconds until my eyes have adjusted, so I have to grit my teeth and pray there isn't a queue in the underpass. I haven't noticed the problem before, and I've been doing this trip for a few years, so I imagine they've changed the lighting recently. This really is an accident waiting to happen in my view, and I'd like to draw it to someone's attention. Anyone know who to complain to? |

I though that they had light outside the tunnel presisely to stop a queue forming in the tunnel. (It's also the reason why the Dartford bridge was built as the southbound lanes) tim |

And traffic light is so that the traffic joining from the A13 won't crash into through traffic from the A102. (It's also the reason why the Dartford bridge was built as the southbound lanes) Huh? |

As the toll booths are on the south side, a tail back at the booths will queue onto the bridge and not into the tunnel tim |

Looking at the satellite photo, it looks as if you can get into the tunnel without going through the tollbooths. |

Looking at the satellite photo, it looks as if you can get into the tunnel without going through the tollbooths. If the Bridge is closed for any reason, they can close the east tunnel to northbound traffic and filter the southbound traffic across into it. When this happens, that southbound traffic passes through the tunnel prior to visiting the tollbooths. Yeah... but I meant it looks like you can cross the river northbound without paying the toll at all. |
