Works unit only exit with hidden office on M11. What is it?
Theres a works unit only exit on the M11 just south of J5 Loughton. I
assumed this was just another gritter depot or police escape road but if you look on google earth theres some sort of office building with a neat car park on the western side. Anyone know what this is? Is it a motorway police station or something like that? B2003 |

The site was originally going to be used for a motorway services area (tentatively named "Chigwell Services"), but it never got built. It's now used by the Police and Highways Agency as a control centre and staff base. Mark -- http://www.MotorwayServices.info - read and share comments and opinons "I don't care if Monday's blue" |

This was used as a major bomb dump for the USAF until relatively recently - there were notes of its use in Gulf War 1. This was never marked on the local OS map, but it could be seen from the air and presumably the junction with the M4 was obvious to drivers on the motorway. -- John Wright Asperger's – a different way of thinking |
