Excellent question, to which I would very much like to know the
answer. Allied to which is the assumption which also needs answering:
are all of the Clapham Juntion barriers (both ends of the station)
fully Oyster-compatible?

A quick play with the Oyster website shows Clapham Junction as being a
pick-up point for 'plain' top up and for travelcards. Don't forget
that the Auto top up only needs the initial pick up point, to
'convert' the card and after it has been set up it works from any
point, buses included. I think that all new cards now come with auto
topup enabled.

Both sides of the station are Oyster compatible. The gates have always
worked for period Travelcards and they were converting them for pre-
pay last sunday.
The section on the oyster help site about using auto topup at National
Rail stations doesn't apply as Clapham Junction is also an Overground
station.
