Road layout outside watford junction

There seems to be masses of road work going on around Watford Junction
at the moment.

Apart from apparently removing the only bit of cycle lane in the
county that I think was worth the price of the paint (the bit on the
St Albans road from Station road heading North until it's past the
parking and the road goes back to two lanes) TPTB seem also to now
require everybody to turn left when coming out of the road to the main
station carpark.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl...&t=h&z=18&om=1

This seems to mean that cyclists coming out of the station either
cycle through the short stay car park (or the bus station) or they do
a U turn at the mini roundabout just south (or, as a lot do, cycle the
wrong way along the cycle lane along the pavement and out onto the
wrong side of the (dual carriageway) road at the junction with the St
Albans Lane.) None of these options strike me as improving the
longevity of the average cyclist. (I'm actually still turning right
here as the new islands prevent this by a car but not by a bike)

Does anyone have any information about what is actually planned long
term and whether any thought at all has been given to cyclists using
Watford Junction? A google for Watford Junction road layout council
and other possible terms has turned up nothing that I noticed as
relevant.

Tim.

I believe the left turn only thing you describe is a temporary measure
*only in force during off-peak hours* to allow for roadworks to take
place (but no I don't know what those hours are nor after a quick
search could I find anything online that gave these details).

I guess that the left turn only and the the removal of the cycle lane
might have something to do with the grand Watford Junction masterplan,
of which more information can be found on this Herts CC webpage he
http://www.hertsdirect.org/envroads/...tfordjunction/

One thing I did gather from a very quick perusal of a document or two
there is that it would appear the underpass from the station car park
under the railway lines will be closed to vehicular traffic.

Thanks for that. I'll have a read later. So it looks like the carpark is
going to be accessed via the st-albans road - there is already a gate
there but it's always shut and locked. (Also would only allow a left
turn at the moment although a few weeks ago a car demolished the central
reservation barrier so you can cross the road there at the moment ;-)

God said, "div D = rho, div B = 0, curl E = - @B/@t, curl H = J + @D/@t,"
and there was light.

It looks to me like the access will be from the back from the Homebase
car park, via a new road that leads over the St. Albans branch to
Colonial Way and so onto the A4008 M1 link road.
