Tube -- St Pancras Thameslink
 

I am still unclear on what is the best way to change from tube -- St
Pancras Thameslink. (Specifically from the Victoria line).

At the moment it is very easy to change between the Vic line and Kings
X Thameslink.

What is the score with the new station? There doesn't seem to be much
information out there and the new service begins on Sunday.

Are you ready?

From the Victoria line platforms, you will need to go up to the Tube
Ticket Hall (via the escalators and gateline), then follow the signs to
'St Pancras International'. They should direct you through the Western
Ticket Hall, up the stairs at the end and to some arches (which mark the
beginning of a long passageway that goes right through StP) on your
right. Walk straight through the arches and at the end of the passageway
you should reach the new Thameslink area.

I promise you that I am not making this up - you will have to allow much
more time to make this interchange I'm afraid. Hopefully this map can be

Almost forgot to add that the new station replaces King's Cross
Thameslink (KCM) as the latter cannot cope well passenger flows during
the peak and it lies in a site where platform extensions are not
practicable, not to mention the lack of adequate emergency escape routes
and the fact that access/egress for the disabled is difficult.

Although the new station is located further away from the deep-level
tube lines (particularly the Victoria line), it is more convenient for
EMT and Eurostar passengers (and to a lesser extent FCC passengers from
King's Cross *Suburban*). The Metropolitan/Circle/H&C line is
equidistant from KCM and the new Thameslink platforms.

On a final note, KCM will remain open as an entrance to the deep-level
tube lines and FCC may stop trains there if an emergency situation
occurs in the area.

The Khyber Pass is the paid-side link between the Met/Circle/H&C line
and the deep-level tube lines. It was nicknamed as such because it was a
public passageway before the capacity works at KXSP took place and
therefore it had to cope not only with passengers who wanted to
interchange between both sets of lines but also passengers seeking to
enter/exit the tube network and those simply looking to bypass Euston
Road - basically it had to deal with many people from all directions.

Pancras Thameslink and the Underground. Surely some mistake?

No mistake - *all* Thameslink passengers who get on/off at StP must go
through the gateline. In particular Victoria line passengers will be in
for a shock, although the Northern Ticket Hall (to open in 2010) will
shorten the walking distance between the deep-level lines and StP (TL)
slightly (particularly the Northern line). In any case the walking
distance for Met/Circle/H&C line passengers will not change tomorrow.

Which reminds me - wasn't there a (now forgotten) plan to build a
paid-side travelator between KXSP and StP many years ago?

So what will be the best route for a passenger from, say, Luton who
wants to get to, say, Paddington? Will it still be easier overall to
remain on the train at KXSP and change at Farringdon?
