Hmm. Presumably London pensioners aren't allowed to use (for free)
Metrolink, Merseyrail, T&W Metro, Supertram, etc...?

I don't think the respective local pensioners can use them free either - its
only a national bus pass scheme the government have insisted upon isn't it?

Free local bus travel across England for those 60+ and yet you have a
gripe!

Saying that the Tube is "standard PT in London" is pretty nonsensical.
Plenty of people (under 60) travel by bus rather than the Tube because
bus fares and bus passes are cheaper.

I'm not sure how the English National bus pass scheme will be financed
but in London the Freedom Pass has been funded by the local borough
councils, who will evidently continue to fund the Freedom Pass scheme
for travel on the Tube and railways in London (there is an ongoing
dispute between the London borough councils and TfL as to the amount
they pay for this, but that's another issue).

If you want to reduce the cost of travelling by Tube then if you hold
a Senior Railcard you can now have a discount concession loaded on to
your Oyster card which will mean that your off-peak daily cap will be
a third less than the standard cap.

There's no bias. There's free bus travel on all local buses across
England for all English residents. Depending upon where you live, you
may get more in your local area, but that is a matter for your local

But the tube is not 'standard' PT in London, it is just part of a
system which also relies heavily on buses. And bus provision in
London is much better than most other places - doesn't that even
things up a bit?

Quite right. I'm all for equality.

Pensioners have the same size backsides as other travellers (some, due to
living on chewing leather and oversweetened beer for nourishment during the
war years, now have HUGE rear ends) and should all pay full price.

use the railway network across England for example?
