I've looked at both the Somerset and TFL websites and I can't find out:

(1) When I board a bus in London with my Somerset issued National Senior
pass do I just show it or wave it at the Oyster reader or what?

(2) Is the pass valid on Croydon Tramlink?

Hi Graham

[1] Just show it

[2] No, only valid on buses in London

see
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/faresandtickets/7327.aspx

The only trams in England that accept these passes are those in
Sheffield, presumably because they're run by Stagecoach.

From
http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/regional/b...nswerstocbtfaq
17. What about ferries, trams and other forms of transport?
Other modes such as ferries or trams are be (sic) outside the new national
concession, but local authorities retain the ability to offer concessions
that go beyond the statutory minimum as an additional benefit to their
eligible residents. Such wider concessions will continue to be funded from
local authorities' own resources.

Generally, any additional concessions a local authority chooses to offer
will only be available to eligible residents of that area, unless there are
special arrangements with a neighbouring authority. Pass holders can contact
their local authority for details.

So looks like the answer is no.

I didn't think of looking at "Freedom Pass" I did a search on the site for
senior citizen!

PS does the name Parador Travel mean anything to you, Jim?

I remember when Mira set it up. The bank (who owned it) were very careful
about what they would (perhaps more importantly would not) let her do. It
all had to be "in keeping". Either they sold the freehold or relaxed their
standards (or want to make money!).

From a different angle -
I have a London "Freedom Pass". Until this year it was valid only
inside the Greater London boundary (or to the first railway station
outside that boundary, or anywhere on the LUL network - I'm not
complaining!). For example, I could use it on the 246 bus (Bromley
to Westerham) only as far as a point somewhere between Biggin Hill
and Westerham, since Westerham itself is in Kent, not London. It is
now valid on "local buses outside London" - does anyone know if this
means that I can use it on TfL buses outside the GLC boundary, e.g.
all the way to Westerham?
I don't want to ask TfL themselves, since any enquiry to any official
body beginning "can I ... " tends to get an automatic answer of "No".

Provided it's a blue pass with the rose symbol and the silver hologram
yes you can.

Haven't been to Westerham but have travelled to St Albans on the 84
without any problems.

Show it to the driver, except on bendy buses.

In fact (and it was discussed here) you could have used a Freedom pass
(and indeed a travelcard) over the boundary and indeed usually all the
way on almost any Tfl service even before April '08.

Not, it seems, to St Albans, but certainly to Westerham, Staines and
Dorking.

From the November 2007 Freedom pass guide "the following list shows the
validity of freedom passes for free travel on all cross-boundary
routes:"
{...}
84 Metroline New Barnet Station to Potters Bar Cranborne Road
{...}
216 Transdev Kingston Cromwell Road Bus Station to Staines Bus Station
{...}
246 Metrobus Bromley North Station to Westerham The Green/
Chartwell House
{...}
465 Travel London Kingston Cromwell Road Bus Station to Dorking South
Street

What you can now do is take any 'local' bus Tfl or not, inside or
outside London or not.

Eg, 218 Travel Surrey Kingston Cromwell Road Bus Station to Staines Bus
Station
