Approach-control signal, Moorgate Met
 
Does anyone know the purpose of the apparently approach-controlled
signal in the middle of the platform on the westbound Moorgate
Met/Circle/H&C platform?

I don't recall ever *not* having been slowed half way up the
platform.

I have, on a few occasions. Maybe it depends on the drivers skill?

I think they were thinking of it blocking a train on its way into the
bay platform, although I don't see how it could be that close, because
there's a trailing crossover between the platform and the one that
leads to and from the bay.

And although I don't know anything about driving trains, I would have
thought that it would be easier to judge the stopping point if allowed
to drive normally into the station than if forced to accelerate while
partly in the platform.
