Default Directions please. Paddington - Sheldon Square?

Hi group,

I haven't used Paddington since the remodeling and installation of gate
lines.
I need to be in Sheldon Square tomorrow morning. Is there still a rear
exit to Paddington, above platforms 13 & 14? Will that get me to Sheldon
Square?
I'll be travelling from Ruislip Gardens, no luggage, so may be using FGW
(from Greenford), Circle, or walking from Lancaster Gate ... or any other
suggestions the group may have.

Yes, I have used that exit quite recently. As I recall, there is a
footbridge at the country end of the main train shed which links
platforms 1 to 8, and another that links it to the suburban and LU
(Hammersmith & City) platforms. Where those two footbridges meet, above
platform 8, there is also the start of the access route that leads out
towards the canal. You can then walk beside the canal to Sheldon Square.

Agreed that's the route from the mainline, suburban and H&C platforms
at Paddington to Sheldon Square - indeed one can also go that way from
the Circle/District & Bakerloo line station and walk across the
concourse and up between platforms 8 and 9 to the overbridge - these
are *not* gated platforms, as the route has been preserved for public
access - or one can alternatively walk up next to platform 1 to the
overbridge. IIRC the signs say "Exit to Harrow Road" - this is the
"rear exit" Fig/ the OP speaks of.

All that said, walking from Lancaster Gate is perfectly reasonable -
up either Westbourne or Eastbourne Terrace, then right onto Bishop's
Bridge, then on your left there's an access road from the bridge into
the Paddington Central complex which you can use to drop down into
Sheldon Square.

It's a 23 minute journey from Greenford to Lancaster Gate by Central
line, whilst it's a 26 minute journey from Greenford to Paddington by
FGW train - so obviously FGW would get your there quicker as it's a
much shorter walk at the Paddington end, but the FGW service is only
half-hourly whilst the Central line is every few minutes.

Thanks Richard & Mizter T. Good to know I can still get out of the back of
Paddington.
I think I'll give the Notting Hill Gate change for Circle/Wimbleware a
miss. It's rarely a good experience and weather should be good for the
walk from Lancaster Gate.
I usually switch to FGW at Greenford just for a change of scenery,
especially now that PAYG is accepted, but only if I'm passing through at
the 'right time'. Unfortunately, I travel so rarely now that I haven't
worked out what time to leave home in order to hit Greenford at the 'right
time'.
Thanks again for the tips. UTL at it's best.
