Lambeth/Borough Road/Southwark Bridge Road

One for anyone who drove a fair bit around central london pre-congestion
charge - was the route from Lambeth Bridge, up Lambeth Road, along the
little one-way system towards St George's Circus, along Borough Road, and up
Southwark Bridge Road previously a very busy route to skirt the South of the
city, avoiding Westminster/Victoria Embankment???? Just curious, as it's
generally exceptionally quiet, and a very handy route to get out to the West
from Tower Bridge / Docklands.

No it wasn't. I used to have to drive from Chelsea -- City / Docklands
and this was the quickest way. If you want to shave off those extra 30
seconds, try turning left just after the railway bridge south of Lambeth
Bridge (next to a DHL depot) down Hercules Road (then Baylis Road, The Cut,
then Union Street (which you can't cos it's No Entry, IIRC)

The one way in Union Street has been reversed so you can get all the way
to Borough High Street even if you do have to go over the new speed
bumps!

FWIW many Knowledge of London students are at first surprised when they
find that he shortest route is sometimes by using two river crossings -
try looking at a route from Parliament Sq to Canary Wharf to see what I
mean!

(I've been on the Knowledge of 26 months and still get completely lost
!!)

so turn left
onto Blackfriars then second right(?) under railway bridge, then
right/left/right onto Great Suffolk Street, and right again to bring you
onto Southwark Street by the Tate Modern)

Hmmm, that sounds really complicated - but have a look at the A-Z and
you'll see what I mean.

Just curious, as it's generally
exceptionally quiet, and a very handy route to get out to the West
