Today, on a full bus (214 southbound) several boys, perhaps aged 12 or
so, entered by the rear door, ordering myself who was exiting to get
out of their way and exhibiting various other obnoxiously...

Thank you to everybody who posted here.
As a result of your advice, I bought boundary zone 6 to Reading
tickets on subsequent trips to Reading, and rode the fast train. This
was accepted...

Thank you, everybody, for your replies.
I am most intrigued by the idea that the fare on the fast train is
identical to that on the slow train, i.e. that I need only buy a
return from West Drayton...

Took the slow train from Paddington to Reading and back today (thus
saving money by using Freedom Pass to maximum extent).
