Default Escaped Circle Line train at Aldgate East

At about 07.40 on Sunday morning 20/07/08, I saw a westbound train at
Aldgate East. The destination on the front was "CIRCLE LINE". There was
no mention of it on the platform train describer. The PA sounded
something akin to: "This is a Circle Line service via Liverpool Street".

Where might it have been parked?
What wanderings do Circle Line services do?

I have occasionally been on a Circle or H&C service which has suddenly
transformed itself into the other sort of service but have not
previously seen this sort of presentation.

http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/use...guage=en&type=
stop&id=1000004 implies the Circle Line serves Aldgate East. Similar
pages suggest the Circle goes as far as Barking. !!

OTOH, it is not reported to go to Royal Oak - on the way to the
Hammersmith sidings - or to Earls Court on the way to Wimbledon or
Kensington Olympia.
