So the only services running at Kings Cross were Picc and Northern? I think so... with chaos in the northern ticket hall because of the extra load and lack of any fair queueing for the limited capacity down to the platforms. Entering from near Platform 8 led down to a big scrum occupying almost all the ticket hall space and slowly inching forward toward the barrirs -- shuffling forward very slowly and getting 1/2 way there in 15 minutes, at which point it became obvious that almost all the capacity down to the platforms was going to people entering the ticket hall from near platforms 9-11 who would get through to the escalators in less than a minute. Leaving at TCR later in the afternoon was no better. They seemed to have a proper queueing system set up with only one entrance open, but the queue of people trying to get in went across the routes for people getting out. When I was there many of the ticket barriers were not working. They were showing green for exiting but rejecting all cards and tickets. Staff were directing passengers to the broken barriers, but the staff were some distance away and couldn't see the fault. Tim |

On the flipside, can anyone remember the last weekend that every line (including the DLR) was open and running normally? The Millennium or Euro96 perhaps? Or more recently than that?

The last weekend before Christmas is normally left clear of engineering works and that appears to be the case again this year. Peter Smyth |
