Does anyone know when Tfl are planning to upload Christmas and New
Year travel information into the journey planner, i have just tried
to look up journey on Boxing Day, and it says that information will
be available "..mid December...". i would have thought that 13th
December counts as "mid December".

I'm not sure but I thought Boxing Day was a normal Sunday service
nowadays?

It's still November up at EMT's HST depot (where they are fitting wifi)
and of course at the Cambridge Guided Bus site we are still waiting for
"Late Summer" 2009 to arrive.

I see that Tfl have now posted a link for Christmas and New Year
travel information on their website.

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/...ore_you_travel

It says "To plan your quickest way around London over Christmas and
New Year, use Journey Planner. "

Of course, when you go into journey planner and actually click on a
date over the Christmas and New Year period, it says "information
regarding services over the Christmas period will be available in mid
December." Lets hope that someone remembers to upload the information
before Tfl closes down for Christmas Day.

Which when it does arrive will probably last a couple of years until the
council realises that the maintenance costs are way beyond any extra
revenue being collected and its "mothballed" permanently.

Theres nothing quite like a local council vanity project to really waste
taxpayers money. How the hell did it ever get approval from the DoT?

Of course, anything that is put into the journey planner could be out
of date, given that the brothers have now decided to throw a hissy fit
and go on strike on Boxing Day. I bet they are disappointed that there
is no service on Christmas Day, which means that they can't threaten
to go on strike then.

I emailed TfL regarding this issue when I ran across it in November
(trying to make arrangements for Boxing Day). I did point out that
National Rail these days try to give 12 weeks notice, so TfL giving less
than that was disappointing (to my mind).

I love the "I hope this helps" little sign off, so touching, so caring,
so completely missing the point.

Here's their response:
Dear Paul

Thank you for your email.

Journey Planner is setup a year at a time - November to November. In
the later part of each year, our Journey Planner team work hard to
develop the system for the following year - i.e.: to include December
2010 and onwards.

We need to compile routing and timetable information for all normal
services during December, especially over the Christmas period when
services are particularly disrupted, before we can offer route planning
facilities.

Historically, we have always announced the Christmas schedule around
the first or second week of December, including the dedicated Boxing
Day bus timetables.

We believe it is important to have all data released at the same time
to provide accurate multi-modal journeys, rather than incomplete or
partly inaccurate information.

Subsequently, New Years Eve and New Years Day information is expected
to be available just before Christmas, with full timetables for the
special all-night Underground, Bus and Tramlink services.

When diversion information is received for the Central London
celebrations, these stops will also be removed from Journey Planner.

I hope this helps

Kind regards

It was central government that wanted the project, paying £93m out of
£116m construction cost (and half of the remainder supposedly coming fro
the developers of a housing development which became stalled in the
recession).

The problem is that as well as not getting that £13m from the
developers, the costs have risen, and the county council has now said it
needs to borrow £50m to ensue that it's completed.

Therefore the "profits" from the busway (plus any claw-back from the
contractors, which will no doubt require legal action) now have to cover
a little over £60m rather than £13m, with still no sign of any house
building in its main east-of-A14 catchment area.

And in the mean time, large amounts of "off-busy" construction has been
magic'd up from the county's other budgets, so the £116m was never going
to be an expression of the whole cost.
