Stored Underground Stock
Hello all,
The disused tube stock discussion has gone silent so can I check with those that know, what stock is where? I know there WERE 83ts at Cockfosters, Sth Harrow and a few others (I see it is still at Neasden - just about anyway) but what about the mk I 72ts around the place? Is there anything around, anything that can be photted? I know the TFL museum have some but have had a bad experience there so more interested in the stuff thats around in something like its natural habitat! Also, I know that Wood Lane station has now been pulled down but are there any other disused stations in danger of being pulled down? Thanks in advance! |

'72 stock units are at Hainault depot and Shoeburyness. They'll be difficult to photograph, unless you manage to speak to the depot manager at Hainault quickly as they are to be removed for scapping soon! |

You mean a decision has finally been made to scrap them? Who is the depot manager at Hainualt and is he likely to be amenable? Have previously got some photos off the platforms of them at Hainualt. Also, how will they be removed from Hainault, by rail or by road? Thanks again! |

om... Have previously got some photos off the platforms of them at Hainualt. Not now possible, as they have now been moved to sidings at the Grange Hill end of the depot, near the depot roadway. Also, how will they be removed from Hainault, by rail or by road? Almost certainly by road. (cf above!) |

Who is the depot manager at Hainualt and is he likely to be amenable? Have previously got some photos off the platforms of them at Hainualt. Not a clue! If you're local perhaps the local station staff could give you some details. Otherwise Metronet are the infraco who 'own' Hainault depot, perhaps they might be able to help. Also, how will they be removed from Hainault, by rail or by road? Almost certainly by road. |

Perhaps you are not aware that the facade has been preserved for restoration and display at the Acton Depot of London's Transport Museum. I wouldn't mind photographing some of these trains on their final journey, especially as the ones at Hainault are in reasonably good condition. |

Anyone know about the 83ts at South Harrow, Neasden and Uxbridge? I gather the Cockfosters units have gone. Also there was some 1972ts at the Bakerloo Depot near Lambeth (name escapes me) and also near Kensington (again depot name escapes me) anyone know more? |

om... Anyone know about the 83ts at South Harrow, Neasden and Uxbridge? I gather the Cockfosters units have gone. As far as I know, there are still one or two trains at South Harrow and Uxbridge sidings, and two trains stored in 32 and 33 sidings near Cockfosters station. In addition to this, there are various cars stored in the p-way sidings at Neasden depot (those already moved from Uxbridge and South Harrow), which are in the (not particularly hurried) process of being prepared for scrapping. Also there was some 1972ts at the Bakerloo Depot near Lambeth (name escapes me) and also near Kensington (again depot name escapes me) anyone know more? I believe that one unit remains stored at London Road depot; the one at Lillie Bridge was there as of two Wednesdays ago. Apart from one or two units stored at Acton Works, all the remaining stored 1972 stock is at Shoeburyness AFAIK. |

Some of them (CFS units) did, there are still two full trains in the east end sidings, can be seen off the end of the platforms - bit of a mess now though. -- Steve Fitzgerald has now left the building. All photos will be for website purposes!! - The unit at London Road depot can clearly be seen from the perimeter wall; either from Lambeth Road or St. George's Road. There's a "famous" traffic-light equipment cabinet on St. George's Road from where many depot photos have been taken, though you would need a decent zoom to get a good pic of the 72ts from that particular place. - The 83ts stored at Neasden Depot are all stored in the p-way sidings, right next to the Quainton Street road-entrance to the depot. That/those stored at Uxbridge can similarly be seen from York Road, or from the deliveries road leading to Sainsbury's. - The only public place to see the two trains stored in Cockfosters sidings is from the station platforms, from where they are *very* distant. - Some of the 72ts stored in Acton Works could also be easily photographed. If you go into a small residential street called Park Place (off Gunnersbury Avenue), at the far end of that is a sports ground, from where the stub of a disused footpath runs leftwards. If you walk along this for a few hundred metres, the 72ts (and some 62ts cars) are stored in the sidings to your right. - The unit at Lillie Bridge can be easily photographed from the West Cromwell Road floyover; it's stored in a siding almost underneath the flyover IIRC. It's also visible from trains passing on the West London Line. |
