East Midland Trains have now activated the ITSOpads and menus on
their ticket machines at St Pancras. I did try my ITSOcards, but they
eventually returned an error message of "not personalised". TheITSO
pads on the machines take much longer to respond than Oystercard pads,
which I can see being the source of problems in the future.

They have now officially launched their smartcard (initally for
seasons only)

See

It looks like it will initally cover the whole of the mainline except
Luton & Bedford. I presume this is to avoid confusion with FCC.

Can I use my Smartcard on London Underground?

From late 2012/early 2013, East Midlands Trains Smartcards can be used on
the London Underground. Until then, underground tickets need to be purchased
separately.
