Default Crossrail 2 to Luton?

Just reading in the Standard about the possible expansion of Luton Airport

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/trans...t-8224387.html

This mentions Crossrail 2, which has always been the proposed
Chelsea–Hackney line AFAIK. The proposed Crossrail 2 mentioned in the
article appears to run from Luton Airport to Euston then presumably
under London and to the South.

Anyone know any details, or is it just a figment of the architect's
imagination?

It sounds like the latter -- there appear to be no other supporters, not
even Luton Airports's owners. And the Crossrail 2 that it mentions bears no
resemblance to the actual one being planned.

The quote in the article is not from Luton Airport's owners (Luton
Council) but the private operator contracted by the owners, London
Luton Airport Operations Limited (LLAOL).

The council is keen to see the airport expand and proposed a second
runway as early as 2001 and again in 2007. The operator LLAOL is
however opposed to major capital investment and merely wants to
optimise the airport around the existing single runway.

Even before the operator had been chosen, the LLAOL team were opposed
to a second runway, let alone a four runway hub airport. LLAOL
reluctantly agreed to study the council's second runway proposal if
they were given the contract tom operate the airport.

LLAOL got the contract and "evaluated" the 2007 proposals in a short
time. Unsurprisingly the proposals were rejected. The council
reluctantly withdrew them.

LLAOL would have to be bought out of their contract or given a new one
if plans for an additional runway or runways came to fruition.

Architects poetic license: Why would Luton have Crossrail 2? It
already has Thameslink. NE London to Wimbledon (occupied north
Surrey) onwards is far needier.

Its sort of part of extension of and/or alternatives to proposals for
Luton airport expansion I posted under the "Every 5 min Tring to
Stevenage/Knebworth by sealed shuttle" . Don't think proposals have
any authoritative support but schemes dreamed up by consultants out to
make themselves money by ridiculous plans. The east-west shuttle is in
the consultants main plan, the Crossrail link seems to have sprouted
from others seizing on the Luton airpot expansion, but I might have
got that wrong, I don't really have time to read all this fairyland
rubbish

Just like the Channel Tunnel, HS1 and now HS2.
