Default TAXIS, the future

I've never liked Hackney carriages much. As soon as you get in one, you get stuck in traffic. But even if you don't get stuck, one has no idea when one enters the car how much the eventual fare might be. It could be anything!

I live in South London, so in general none of this applies to me, but when I have used Taxis in central London these are among the problems I have faced.

I use mini-cabs every now and then, but I'd much rather use Uber if 'twas available.

I believe pre-booked taxis can be for a fixed fare.

Late at night hailed taxi drivers will sometimes give a competitive
fixed fare, but are unlikely to do that in rush hour.

I have never come across a Hackney carriage driver who offered a fixed
fare within their area that wasn't more than what the metered fare
would be. Though the ones in Milton Keynes are particularly
disreputable, and the private hire operators generally of good quality,
which I guess is the reverse of the situation in London.
