"While the double-decker insert is in place, elements of the
bridge that need repair, including the decking, would be lifted
away using the temporary bridge as a works platform and
transported by barges to an off-site facility for safe repair
and restoration."

Doesn't say if other river traffic would be allowed to resume at the
same time as cars.

Presumably not till the dodgy bits have been removed for restoration.
How much river traffic would there normally be that far upriver?

A significant number of pleasure craft (some of whom have been stranded
away from their regular moorings), as well as the boat race (and
practising for it).

Do we know what the threat to river traffic is? Is it the whole bridge
collapsing into the river, or bits falling off?

I was thinking about the various "bin-liner" type movement of rubbish
from the west side of London to the recycling depots to the east. Quite
a lot of that moves by river these days.
