High Street Kensington Station

Anybody who is still interested in the topic of naming new rail stations will probably be fascinated by the discussion reported in today's issue of the "SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER " under the title : "Name that light rail station": Sound Transit seeks new ideas for 7 of planned system's stops By JANE HADLEY, SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/transp...transit24.html sarcasmYes, it was so nice of our local transit agency to publicize this/sarcasm. Did they really think regular *people* (i.e., potential riders) wouldn't want to comment? And this article appeared what, four days before the deadline? Fortunately I read it and mailed in my suggestions. Benjamin Lukoff, Seattle is defunct. You can mail me at my last name at gmail.) |

"Helen Deborah Vecht" wrote in message ... "John Rowland" typed Incidentally are there only two streets in London which have fractional numbers in them? (Balls Pond Road and London Wall) I think there's one in Barnard Hill, N10. Also, The Vale in Childs Hill has a number 0. pedant I'd say that end of The Vale was in Golders Green. So would I, except I prefer the name of Childs Hill so use it wherever vaguely feasible. Funny, this Childs Hill topic coming up again. I used to live at the corner of Finchley Road and Platt's lane, NW3, and could never get a satisfactory answer as to what neighborhood I lived in. Hampstead wasn't quite accurate, neither was West Hampstead. Some suggested Childs Hill, others said that wasn't right either. Posting on USENET five years ago got me nowhere--I wonder if anyone has a better idea today? :) Benjamin Lukoff, Seattle is defunct. You can mail me at my last name at gmail.) |

By the way, thanks, John Rowland, for your reply to my original post
which was "only 54 months late." I never did think I'd find out the answer to that question, let alone stumble upon the thread again after so many years! Benjamin Lukoff, Seattle is defunct. You can mail me at my last name at gmail.) |

writes Complex branched cul-de-sacs always seem to have the lowest number on one side of the sole entrance, the highest number opposite, and every house one higher and one lower than its two neighbours (Leigh Hunt Drive in Southgate is an example of this). Talking of which, does anyone know what used to be where Leigh Hunt Drive is? -- Steve Fitzgerald has now left the building. Still a mezzuzah on the front door though. Or at least there was 4 years ago. I'd call that Child's Hill but anything further up Platt's Lane, or Kidderpore Avenue feels like Hampstead to me. Thanks. I notice someone else posted "Fortune Green" which was another suggestion I heard, but as someone else posted in reply, I always figured that was restricted to the west side of Finchley Road. So maybe I'll start referring to it as Child's Hill (and see if anyone knows what I'm talking about! I'll probably still have to call it the far western edge of Hampstead.) |
