Default Oyster, pre-pay.

If you touch in, but then don't touch out, what is the charging scheme?
Are you charged the maximum for the route you're on, or the minimum or
what?

When the system was introduced you were only being charged a minimum fare
and that was still the case as late as August. However it seems it has
always been the plan to switch to charging the maximum possible fare. I
don't know if that has now been brought in.

Yesterday I was unable to "touch out" my prepay Oyster due to all the gates
being out of order at a station that I was exiting from.

When I phoned the Oystercard helpline, I was told that I was only charged
the minimum fare for that journey. When I asked if and when the max fare
might be introduced for this sort of thing, they said "soon".

When that happens to me, as it frequenty does at Totteridge and
Whetstone when some fool sets all the gates as unattended, barriers
open, exit only, and the gates refuse to honor any exit touch-out, it's
still possible to touch out properly if you exit through the 'attended'
gate and touch out properly via the validator beside it, which will
close off the journey properly.

Kings cross sometimes has the main set of gates switched off. They are all
open, no displays on and the oystercard readers are all off
