Default Tickets from Edge of Zone2

Hi
I tried to buy a ticket from Edge of Zone 2 to Hitchin Kings Cross.
The guy replied they "don't sell them". Is he correct?

My understanding is that if the TOC runs services that stop at a station
(eg Finsbury Park in my case) then they sell you a ticket from that
stations.

It depends what you need, if you want to extend from Zone 2 to Hitchin
then there should be an add on fare. If you already have Hitchin to
Zone 2 and need to go to Kings Cross there is no add on Fare, you just
buy a Z12 Travelcard or suitable single.

My use of prepositions is a clue as to which of these applies.
_From_ Zone 2 _to_ Hitchin suggests that I was travelling From zone 2 to
Hitchin rather than from Hitchin to Kings Cross.

Seriously, I already have a Zone1+2 Monthly travelcard on Oyster Card.
I wanted to extend this for a return to Hitchin and was suprised that the
ticket office seemed unable to sell this.
Might it be that they can't read the Oyster Card?

Presumably you offered them your record card?

It does nothing of the sort as you actually wrote the text quoted
above. Pethaps you omitted the word "at"?

Shouldn't you also have a little cardboard thing to show people who
can't read the Oyster Card?

More likely to be lack of training on behalf of the ticket office
staff. However there are some major anomalies to do with Boundary add
on fares. They are not necessarily cheaper than straight London
Terminals fares.

http://www.atoc.org/traveltrade/manuals/nfm/sectionk-part2.pdf has
fuller details.
