Correction ! having now seen the map published in the Times, it appears
that the Superlink proposals are for outer-suburban type services:

Reading-Tilbury
Guildford and Basingstoke-Reading-Cambridge

How do the trains get from the Southwest Mainline to the Crossrail tunnel?

Heathrow-Stansted
Northampton-Southend, Clacton and Ispwich

Northampton to Ipswich via London? It would be quicker to cycle.

Also Tottenham Ct Rd-Dartford (?)

via Reading apparently. This would be OK for services from Basinsgtoke
(assuming the line is electrified), but the map also shows trains from
Guildford routed via Basingstoke and Reading which sounds rather
improbable to me.

It is now apparent that it incorporates the Airtrack scheme and that
Reading, Basingstoke and Guildford would be served by trains via Heathrow,
in addition to direct GWML services to Reading. At the eastern end all
trains would serve Canary Wharf not Stratford. The proposals now make a
lot more sense, though I fear it will merely delay the whole CrossRail
project.

I want to know where the line on their map that shoots off west from
Ascot goes, because it certainly doesn't appear to be heading towards
Aldershot.

It would help if the map was slightly more accurate...Colchester-on-Sea
anyone?

Strange that its avoiding Shenfield as well, meaning anyone wanting to
change there would have to go via Canary Wharf or Liverpool Street!

The proposal appears to involve a tunnel to Newbury Park followed by new
surface railways through Green Belt land to Billericay/Ingatestone and
to Harlow. Not only that - there will be NO station stops on these
extensive new sections of railway between Canary Wharf and those
stations mentioned!

Looks like a lot of hot air to me! If it so hard to get Crossrail built, how
is this going to get built. For £25Billion! Carrying passengers paying
25p/mile. It can't be justified!
