2006 Travelcard price up 20%
As I understand it, from 2006 anyone who just needs a zone 1 travelcard will
have to buy a zones 1-2 travelcard for £888, an increase of 20% on what they paid in 2005. How nice of Ken. |

How nice of Ken. insert "annual" ... In fact you will not be able to buy a single zone Travelcard seasons at all whatsoever regardless of whether it is a weekly, monthly or longer season ticket you're after (see the 2006 fares leaflet [1]). Travelcard seasons will only be available in two zone combinations. I guess this is about simplifying the fare structure, I dunno. [1] http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/downloads/...let.pdf#page=8 |

My guess is it's because they wanted to crank up the price of Bus Pass seasons. Of course a Bus Pass season has to be cheaper than the cheapest Travelcard season (as the latter includes all of the validity of the former), so the 1-zone TC had to disappear so that the Bus Pass price could be inflated to almost the 2-zone TC price. |

I guess this is about simplifying the fare structure, I dunno. what could be simpler than buying a ticket for the zone you want to travel in? it is clearly just a stealthy way of massively raising fares whilst being able to announce selective reductions. The media seems to be fooled so far, anyway. |
