Does anyone know what the "capacity enhancements" are in regards to
West Ham station? Is it just DLR conversion and upgraded jubilee
signalling or is there more to it than that? I know the C2C (LTS) lobby
group want improved signalling in the West Ham area for mainline
services too.

Cheers.

Surprised they haven't mapped out in that booklet the Marathon and the
Walking routes. After all, it has an impact on transport as well.

Weymouth? Why on earth are they having the sailing at Weymouth? What's
wrong with the Blackwater, or the Medway estuary, or even the Thames (yes,
i know, ships)? We've got some of the best sailing water in the country on
the east coast!

Bah. It's probably because it's too hard for all these continentals,
raised on the tideless Med. They should send them on a course up the Ore,
that'd learn 'em.

From Newham planning website

West Ham station will be modified to provide an extra entrance and ticket
office on the western side leading into the Olympic Park, via a pedestrian
ramp to the 'Greenway', the raised path above the northern outfall sewer
embankment.

I hope they improve the point where the Greenway passes under the
GER/DLR at Pudding Mill Lane. Last time I was there, it was _the_ worst
eyesore in all London!

If you mean the grotty waterlogged passageway under the outfall, that you
follow if walking the towpath, I definitely agree.

They have - scroll down that page, and look for the "Road Events"
document (which I think was Chapter 8). The routes are detailed in
there.

The entire area is an eyesore!

Ah, where it goes past a breaker's yard and round the back of a warehouse?
Yes, unbelievably awful.

I was puzzled by that too, but then I haven't dinghied in years.

Apparently it's an excuse to do up the National Sailing Academy the
http://news.bbc.co.uk/low/english/av...00/5075766.htm

and not simply because Heathrow-Woking-Weymouth lets the competitors
avoid the transport nightmare that London will become.

No idea what a "dual-aspect slipway" is (water at both ends?).

....

What's wrong with the Welsh Harp - the Firefly has an Olympic pedigree,
after all!

Yeah, that's the one I meant.

Hmmm.... this must be the first time that anyone on Usenet has posted
"This is the worst..." and no-one's disagreed!

I'm not sure i'd say it was the worst eyesore in all of London (although
nothing worse springs to mind), but it's certainly the worst bit of the
greenway, and dramatically so. I appreciate that there's not a lot they
can do about a mainline railway, but it is bloody awful.

Oh, except the bit where it crosses an arterial road somewhere in Bow (Bow
High Street?) is pretty ridiculous too - if you're on your bike, you have
to get off, walk quite a way down the pavement, cross a couple of sets of
lights, then walk back up.

One of the railway bridges (LTSR?), on the other hand, is ace - there's a
collection of really good graffiti.
