Saturday Parking in Kingston Upon Thames
 

I have been going shopping in Kingston Upon Thames for many years.

We tend to park mostly in the Bentall or John Lewis car parks.

However their charges over the years have got higher and higher.

SWMBO like to spend the whole day (8-7) shopping so it leaves me with a
huge bill for the parking.

Does anyone know of anywhere in Kingston which has parking all day on a
Saturday for a reasonable rate? (Reasonable being less than the £15+
paid at Bentall/John Lewis and other car parks in Kingston)

from today until after Christmas the K50 park and ride scheme is in
place. Parking is at Chessington World of Adventures and frequent buses
run to Eden Street in Kingston. Parking is free and the bus fare is
£1.50 return.

There's lots of free bicycle parking there. Public transport is cheap.
Internet shopping incurs no parking charges.

The park and ride is a) miles away through rotten traffic. b)notorious
for car break ins. c)not very nice after dark if you are alone

Is it cheaper to deal with the broken windows and stolen car stereos
than to pay the 15 quid in John Lewis and be in a well lit dry manned
parking place?

I was only offering a sensible alternative. I don't drive but even if I
did I would not dream of going to Kingston by car.

Bus and train services are perfectly adequate and have the advantage of
not costing anything like £15 for parking.

Well plenty of people do get their shopping home by bus, train and tube
every day of the week. I think too many people have simply become
enslaved to using their cars to do the shopping - it isn't necessary and
other modes and ways of running your life can easily reduce the need for
car borne shopping.

I personally find it a bit amazing that the OP's other half can shop for
virtually a whole day in Kingston but hey it takes all sorts. I accept
that over such a long period she may have bought so much that it is
beyond the capability of a human being to carry all the purchases!

As the OP is schlepping their shopping around for 11 (yes, eleven)
hours, going home on the train seems the easy part.

They could get public transport there and then a cab back, which would
probably be cheaper than £15.
