There is an obelisk in Circus Place with ventilation slots near the top.
Just to the south is a huge drain big enough to lower a van. Any clues?

Could that be ventilation for the Central line?

Van disposal unit. New parking enforcement concept.

What exactly do you mean by a 'huge drain'? Could you give a slightly more
precise location? I'll see if i can stop by on my travels.

Isn't there a big underground carpark somewhere near there? Could it be
something to do with that?

The Central Line is not near Circus Place. It might be something to do with
Crossrail, although it's a little too far south, and probably premature!

You can see the drain occupying one half of the width and one third of the
length of the road. The top of the obelisk is lit by sunlight just to the
north of the drain.

Yes, I have often wondered about this.
Presumably it is some sort of access shaft.
Possibly an elecricity substation or similar?
