How many stops did they plan to have between West Ruislip and Denham?- One, at South Harefield. I believe that some construction work was started, though not very much. PhilD -- |

From Watford Observer, Friday, March 16, 2007 Tube dissected The reasons why the London Underground was never extended to Bushey In hindsight it was probably rather a good thing it wasn't since it means theres still some green belt land around that area. If the tube had been built then no doubt the ugly suburbs of Edgware and Stanmore would have eventually been extended northward across the A41 & M1 creating the london suburb of elstree. B2003 |

The other point is that the Northern line is quite full enough as it is, could the modern Northern line cope with the extra traffic? Robin |

Binning the finsbury park to east finchley track I think has to rate as one of the dumbest decisions in the history of london railways. Aside from being a far quicker route to the city than via the current northern line it would have allowed all sorts of combinations of through running of mainline trains too. Perhaps east finchley could even have become an eventual terminus for the new east london line. B2003 |

The tube wouldn't have gone that far even if teh Denham extension had been built. Peter |

I'm sure I saw at one point, many years ago, plans for the ELL to go from Highbury to Finsbury Park, then across the Parkland Walk to Highgate and on to take over the Mill Hill East branch of the Northern Line and terminate there. That obviously came to nothing. Patrick |

However, the London Underground *did* serve Bushey between 1917 and 1982, when the Bakerloo ran to Watford Junction. Bushey is not Bushey Heath. Indeed - and the original article said the Tube was never extended to Bushey. |
