BBC story basically explaining the extension of PAYG to the Silverlink Metro routes when TfL take over the services, but why are they suggesting that this particular station (Walthamstow Queens Road) will be first? A TfL spokesman said: "In preparation for the start of London Overground services on November 11, Transport for London is installing Oyster ticket machines, pay-as-you-go equipment and ticket gates at Silverlink Metro stations. Secondly, note how the reporter uses the term 'overground' to mean 'national rail' in the article, I suggest there will be all sorts of hassle when the 'London Overground' comes into use if the media persist in their current usage of 'overground' meaning all 'non LU/DLR' services. And then there is the south London 'Overground Network' too which also appears to be withering on the vine nowadays... Paul |

And it says the first won't be until November. Silverlink, a couple of months ago: "Silverlink Metro has been working closely with TfL for some time to make all Silverlink Metro stations within the London Travelcard area Oyster compatible and aims to achieve this well before TfL assumes responsibility for the route in November this year." http://www.silverlink-trains.com/tem...e.aspx?id=1209 What a bull**** story. At present I can't find one on the TfL website but that's where I'd expect to see it. My guess is that Queens Road is the first location in the installation programme and as that is a key milestone in the programme to achieve acceptance by November then I suppose it is newsworthy. Unfortunately what I imagine are the facts have been horribly mangled and turned into that BBC article. Maybe the TfL press release will materialise on their website next week and then we can all check? I agree with you about the mixed references to Overground. While I can see the attraction of using the term the fact that it is colloquial speak for the main line railway in London is not going to aid comprehension. I imagine the use of the term for the "high frequency" routes in South London will be phased out by TfL and the TOCs. -- Paul C Admits to working for London Underground! |
