Proposed ticket office closures on the tube
I looked back a couple of weeks and didn't see a thread about this, so
thought I'd start one. LUL are planning to cut ticket office opening hours (again), suggesting that its because more people are using Oyster. Whatever you think of the reason, hey here's a list of proposed closures. TOTAL CLOSURES: Barkingside, Becontree, Boston Manor, Buckhurst Hill, Cannon Street, Canons Park, Chesham, Chiswick Park, Chorleywood, Croxley, Debden, East Putney, Fairlop, Hornchurch, Goldhawk road, Ickenham, Latimer Road, Mansion House, Mill Hill East, Moor Park, North Ealing, North Harrow, Northwood Hills, Park Royal, Perivale, Ravenscourt Park, Regents Park, Royal Oak, Ruislip, Ruislip Gardens, South Ruislip, Sudbury Hill, Temple, Totteridge & Whetstone, Upney, West Acton, West Finchley, West Harrow, West Ruislip, Wimbledon Park, Canary Wharf (East), Seven Sisters (B), Southwark (West), Oxford circus (Argyll Street), Waterlook (International). WEEKEND CLOSURES: Bow Road, Bromley-by-Bow, Chalfont & Latimer, Dagenham East, Elm Park, Goodge Street, Hainault, Mornington Crescent, South Harrow, Sudbury Town, Wanstead, Westbourne Park. SUNDAY CLOSURES: Alperton, Baker Street (Met), Barbican, Dagenham Heathway, Eastcote, Euston Square, Great Portland Street, Hillingdon, Northwick Park, Northwood, Pinner, Rickmansworth, Ruislip Manor, Shepherds Bush (H&C), Watford. SATURDAY CLOSURES: Moorgate (man), Waterlook (Shell). WEEKDAY CLOSURES: Bow Road 10am to 4pm, Dollis HIll 1.30 to 4pm, Epping 4 to 7pm, High Barnet 1.30 to 4pm, Kennington 2 to 4.30pm, Lambeth North 2.30 to 4.30 pm, Loughton 12 to 3pm, Mornington Crescent 11am to 4.30pm, South Woodford 1.30 to 4.30pm, Tufnell Park 2 to 5pm, Warwick Avenue 2 to 5pm, Waterloo (Shell) 10am to 2pm, Woodford 1.30 to 4.30pm. AFTERNOON CLOSURES: Cockfosters, Dagenham East, Hainault, Hillingdon, Northwood, Pinner, Redbridge, Rickmansworth, Ruislip Manor, Snaresbrook, South Harrow, Wanstead, Watford, Westbourne Park, Woodside Park. You'll know how busy your own local ticket office gets, and how this may affect you, so its up to your judgement what you wanna do about it, but here's some places to send your views. Write to your MP c/o House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA. Write to Ken Livingstone c/o City Hall, The Queens Walk, London SE1 2AA. Sign the online petition at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/tubetickets/. Contact the RMT about their campaign to be kept up to date of what they're doing about it... c/o Unity House, 39 Charlton Street, London, NW1 1JD. Thats the info as I've seen it published. All I can see is that closures will leave Oyster users (who do have problems from *time to time*) with no direct port of call to resolve problems... and then there's the people who DON'T have Oysters, who will be left to fend for themselves. I'm not going to try and start a political debate here, just providing information for you to do as you wish. |

When Theydon bois's only Oyster ticket machine is broken (which frequently happens), you can allegedly top up and pay at your destination. The main beneift is, instead of a staffed ticket office window, you have a guy or 3 sat in the ticket office reading the paper or talking. They are helpful when you attract their attention, however they aren't allowed to sell you a ticket (I don't think they even have a machine) |

Reference to a supervisors office in Wood Lane suggests there will still be people present on each station, simply that the ticket office will be closed. If people are to be present are they able to provide help with the ticket machines? |

There is no requirement that the ticket office be open. -- Michael Hoffman |

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of railway stations all over the country that operate with no staff. Paul |
