Default Marylebone Amersham via Beaconsfield

On Saturday evening, I had to go from Barbican to Amersham. There was no
Met service north of Harrow-on-the-Hill from which a bus was running at
the cost of an extra hour. The Journey Planner suggested taking the
Marylebone to Birmingham Snow Hill service to Beaconsfield and a Rail
Replacement Bus to Amersham. I found no information on the Chiltern
Railways site about the cost of this with a Pay as you Go Oystercard.
I saved about 30 minutes on this route. At Amersham, a ticket office
clerk confirmed that my ticket was valid on this route. I touched out
and was charged a plausible fare.

There *SHOULD* have been posters at Amersham, Marylebone, and probably
Beaconsfield, telling Oyster PAYG users to make sure they touch in/out
at Amersham before/after taking the rail replacement bus to ensure you
pay the correct fare.

Cheers,

Barry

I saw none but did not look for them. There certainly was no
Beaconsfield information in the ticket hall at Aldgate which I had
examined in detail earlier that day. I had not followed a link from an
email about planned disruptions to a copy of the relevant leaflet - also
absent at Aldgate. (I am afraid I purged that email and don't have the
URL which was still valid yesterday. There is a similar page at
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/unlinked/tube-...etropol_A4_21-
22APR.pdf)
The ticket office was closed; the CSA for the operational gate line had
gone to the loo; the supervisor was on the phone to get a ticket office
clerk to come and fix the Oyster machine.

On a vaguely related subject, "Your guide to fares and tickets" only
covers zones 1-6. There seems to be no similar leaflet for zones A-D.
Those Bucks people seem to get an inferior service. A postcode within a
mile of Amersham station was unknown to the Journey Planner.

You need one of these then - which should be available at appropriate
stations...

PS there should eventually be one of these leaflets for stations beyond
Hatch End on the DC lines too, using this leaflet as a precedent...
