If you can get a view at all then you'll be able to see the smoke from
this drifting over east London. Looks bad.

The blaze is close to the Channel Tunnel high speed rail link, however
Eurostar has said the fire is not having an impact on services.

Funny, that.

I watched it for about 20 minutes while waiting for my train at
Pudding Mill Lane - pretty much from the very beginning of the smoke.
Creepy, but at first I thought it was some part of the construction
works ;-)
And it definitely was less annoying then the constant noice of from
the construction site.

Then 40 minutes later I came back to Pudding Mill Lane to find my home
under the thick black cloud. It even became darker for a while.

I think that was what Theo was trying to pointing out.

Either that or it would be unlikely to be affected down in its tunnel?

It's visible from as far afield as Maidstone:

That was my point

Either that or it would be unlikely to be affected down in its tunnel?

The line runs through Stratford International, which is a big concrete box
open to the sky. If smoke got into the box such that it was reducing
visibility of through the platforms or the station (a big glass and concrete
affair which has no opening date planned) or the tunnels then it might be a
problem. But the trains have cab signalling, so they can presumably operate
when they can't see lineside signals. Possibly it'd be a problem if passing
trains drew smoke into the tunnels.
