OK? So buy a paper travelcard? It's only 50p more then the Oyster Cap, and
gives you freedom on National Rail.

Though unfortunately things are a little more complicated.

A weekday daytime single journey (M-F between 7am-7pm) on the Tube to
Canada Water, or a through journey via the Tube and DLR to Deptford
Bridge, will cost £2 with Oyster PAYG. Any subsequent bus journeys
will cost 90p each.

If you make your journeys off-peak, that is after 09.30am weekdays,
then you'll qualify for the off-peak Oyster daily cap for zones 1&2-
which is £4.80. However journeys you make before 09.30am will only
qualify for the peak daily cap - which is £6.30 - however, two Tube
and two bus journeys will not mean you reach this level, and so you
will only pay £5.80 (£2 + £2 +90p +90p).

Meanwhile a zones 1&2 off-peak Day Travelcard - valid for travel after
09.30am including on National Rail - will cost you £5.30. However a
zones 1&2 Peak Day Travelcard - valid for travel before 09.30am, again
also on National Rail - will cost you £6.80.

Therefore depending upon when you travel, and whether you travel all
the way there by Underground/DLR or also use a bus and/or a National
Rail train (bearing in mind the East London Line replacement bus is in
effect free), the cost of your travelling will vary between £4 and
£6.80 for a return journey.

However if you want to make a return journey, including using National
Rail to get to and from New Cross, then the Peak Day Travelcard at
£6.80 is your best bet. If however you are only going to use National
Rail one way, in particular before 09.30am, then using Oyster PAYG
plus a £2.30 single train ticket between London Bridge and New Cross
or New Cross Gate would likely be better (the only problem being that
you actually have the fiddle of buying that ticket when you start that
journey from either London Bridge or one of the New Cross stations).
