You're lucky. Last year at Walthamstow Central someone pushed me out of the
way in order to barge through the barrier on my ticket and there were four
staff standing around near the barrier and not one of the sods did a thing
or even asked me it I was alright.

Why didn't you stop him?

Because putting myself in the line of fire when someone has only
fractured a bylaw isn't something I do.
I have stopped people comitting other offences though, including a
recent thing at reading station

Leave it to the station staff, then. Let them take the flak.

'tis what their job is, so I thought.
I only intervene out of common courtesy if I see someone in
potentially more danger than they can handle.

I was on a platform at reading station awaiting a changeover late one
night recently when a scruffy and 'agitated' young lad was flaoting
around one of the food places pestering the lone member of staff for
some free food as he had no money, after she'd said no a few times and
he was following her around the seats as she was cleaning up I decided
to make my presence felt so he backed off. Being a kind type the young
lady gave him a pastry for free as it was the end of the day and he
possibly was indeed hungry, the sod then swiped a cookie on his way
out. he never made it out the door.

who if approached would be humble and contrite?
And what should the member of staff have done if he had approached
the barrier leaper, if he dialled 999 the Met would not attend and say
it was BTP job, and the BTP are understaffed and overworked, do you
really think the leaper was at any risk of officers from any force showing
up if the member of staff had apprehended him?

Did nothing? I would have expected a round of applause at the very least
for an impressive display of such atypical athleticism. He should have
be tracked down and signed up for the 2012 team. If he does that to save
a few quid, he'll probably do 110m hurdles for about £30 cash-in-hand
and a few tins of beer. Might not be so good on the drugs test though.
