I well remember the old bridge - my comments were just referring to what it would have been like when the bridge *first* went up and it seems to be is generally agreed spoilt a fine view up the hill of St. Paul's. The new bridge at Shoreditch just led me to be reminded of this - but as far as I can think of the new bridge doesn't obscure the any (equally) 'classic' London views, though it will obstruct the sight lines of some more modern City buildings (perhaps the iconic Gherkin in particular). diverted under the road into City Thameslink station (which confusingly on opening was also named St Paul's - well, St Paul's Thameslink, to be precise). Personally i think "St Pauls Thameslink" is a much better name since it locates the station precisely. City Thameslink on the other hand is pretty vague and could mean anywhere from Holborn to Aldgate. Yes, in isolation it's certainly a good name, but I think it originally confused people into thinking there was easy interchange with the Central line at St Paul's station when there isn't. Though the Central line station isn't really that far away when you use the northern exit of the Thameslink station. |
