Most of the shared sections (Putney-Wimbledon, Queens Park-Harrow,
Gunnersbury-Richmond) are maintained by Network rail. Not sure about
Harrow-Amersham.

The restriction presumably arises from the introduction of 'A' stock on the
East London line.

This has a somewhat wider loading gauge than normal sub-surface stock, and
is not normally operated east...

Wasn't there a connection from just north of Drayton Park up to the GN main
line, and thence to the Northern at Highgate/Finchley, which was used for
stock transfers up till the late 50's when the BR...

Presumably these stats all relate to surface sections. It would be
interesting to learn what the highest/average speeds are in the tunnelled
sections.
