That's a good idea, then you'll have no one to drive at all.

Roll on automation and driverless trains.

I have had enough. London Underground workers are going on strike and
affecting millions of people because they think one of their collegues was
unfairly dismissed.

I think its about time that we had a serious look at union powers, I think
the LU Unions are too powerful. How on earth can a bunch of 600 drivers

be
paid around £30k/year for what is essentially a low-skilled job?

I really have had enough. We need some changes in the law, this is no

longer
about workers rights, this is about the rights of Londoners not to be held
to ransom by a small minority, who now seem to use *any* excuse to go on
strike.

Sack the lot of 'em!

30k per year is not a huge amount if you live in London and have to pay for
accomodation there too. I think two tube drivers are better value for money
than one MP, as at least they do something useful. They must do, as at least
we all notice when they are not working! How about all the other governemnt
staff nobody notuices if they work or not?

Yup, which then means that the management **** off the maintenance staff (in
the absence of anyone else to annoy) and so it all starts again.

But the maintenance is or will be all contracted out to third parties
who will have all their staff on non-union contracts, and they'll be
easier to replace staff too.

Which leaves the station staff who are definitely replaceable in days
if not hours.

I think it's about time the union figured out that they are tipping
away any last drips of support the public may have had for them with
this case.

How many of the drivers would have supported the strike had it NOT
been on Christmas/New Year's eve thus getting them an extended
holiday.

Maybe the guy was not well enough to drive a train, who knows, there
don't seem to be any facts in the public arena, but I can't believe he
was not well enough to show up at work and do some other job or even
just ride the route each day to keep up his familiarity with it.

Despite the fact the majority of the infraco staff are in RMT!

Which leaves the station staff who are definitely replaceable in days

Oh yes, that's why the Station Assistant course is 6 weeks in length! I
certainly wouldn't feel comfortable having someone with 'a few hours
training' acting as a handsignalman or accompanying me on the track to scoth
and clip points!
