I think somebody told the signwriter that underground lines had to be presented in alphabetical order, and the signwriter, seeing Circle, Hammersmith and City and Metropolitan on his brief, and not knowing that the H&C was a single line, corrected it to what you see there. People who are not familiar with the Underground system often think that the Hammermith and City line is two separate lines, especially when included in a list. I've even heard radio travel news presenters refer to it as though it's two different lines. "Delays occurring on the Circle, Metropolitan, Hammersmith and City lines..." she said, at which I chuckled to myself. |
