"More Tube delays on the way
Waterloo, City and Northern lines need to be closed for vital repair work.

By Danny Brierley

LONDONERS have been warned to expect closures on three busy Tube lines
for months at a time.

Sections of the Waterloo, City and Northern lines need to be closed for
vital repair work to be carried out.

Tim O' Toole, London Underground's Managing Director, told the London
Assembly that this would need to happen for vital work to be completed
on the network. Proposals are being put forward to shut the lines on
several different occasions."
(end quote)

Sorry Mr Brierly, but have you used the Underground?

Does he mean

- Waterloo & City and Northern lines (in which case it's only two lines)

- Bakerloo, something and Northern lines (three lines, but what's the
missing one?)

Either way, sounds as if he's never seen an Underground map in his life!

I don't know, but I would suspect this one, taking each of the central
london branches as two "separate" lines.

Well, that's what the BBC thinks too, according to :

The autoannouncer on one of the lines (might be the Vic, but I can't
remember) seems to think there's a "Circle and Hammersmith" line
(without the "and City" suffix). Whether this is cock-up or
conspiracy I'm really not sure.

And for that matter how do they intend to close a 'section' of the
Waterloo and City line?

Well, I suppose single track with one train would work ;-D

This phrase is used within LU, but like "Inner Rail" it's something that
shouldn't leak through into announcements.

Perhaps the section from the Waterloo platforms to the Bank platforms,
leaving the section between the Waterloo platforms and the depot still
running?

Nah! They'll close one half or the other, so you can go from Waterloo to a
point underneath the Thames and than have to walk the rest of the way ;-)
