Just travelled out of Liverpoool Street Station on Saturday for the

Paddington will so well restored? Anyway on leaving the initial

guess this served the East London Line tube when it used to run into
Liverpool Street - and it is now used for the overhead catenary masts.
But then just a bit further on - under a series of arches - we noticed
a number of old stone carvings dumped behind a fence. They looked very
old, one looked as though it was the top of a church spire. What are/
were they and where did they come from? CJB.

IMHO The rebuilding of Liverpool St was the excellent. The result is
the finest of London Terminals. One would, that this had been used as
the rebuilding example for Paddington. Brunel's terminal should be
restored. However, the carbuncle on the suburban side should be
replaced in the same sympathetic manner as Liverpool Street. The
building over Liverpool St's suburban platforms brings income, but
fits its surroundings well.

That's in progress right now (if you actually meant opening up and restoring
span 4 at Paddington)...

No, I meant utterly removing any trace of Span 4.

Including replacing non-slip tarmac with terrazzo tiling which is lethally

For a '60s train spotter, the old LS station was much more fun!

Up to a point, Lord Copper!

You should try using it with a bicycle, as we in Cambridge commonly used
to. The managed to replace a cycle friendly ramp down to the platforms by
steps *up* and an escalator and stairs down. Not exactly helpful or
considerate.

Ok, there is a ramp but it's a long way round and through a shopping mall
where cycling is not allowed. And no ramp at all from the Bishopsgate side.

There's the ramp up from the central roadway between platform 10 & 11
onto Primrose Street, which means you'd be ejected onto the quieter
streets behind the station rather than having to battle through the
crowds.

You'd end up in Norton Folgate!

That's the on-ramp

That's even more out of the way if one wants to get to and from Bank, the
direction the old ramp came from!

That's the off-ramp
