Given that Citaros are used in very large numbers throughout Germany,
you'd think this sort of thing would have been ironed out. Has the
modification for right-hand drive perhaps put something hot next to
something flammable that isn't the case in the normal LHD model?

Apparently the German ones are just as fire happy as the London
versions. It seems to be a Citaro thing.

Did anybody on this side of the Channel bother to check these things
before a deal was signed?

I think it is time to re-post Rob Smith's song from 28/09/04, all together
now...

'Bendi-fear' is spreading through the capital
as people Wake Up To The Dangers of these flame-prone vehicles and start
thinking of other ways to get to work.

Shamelessly playing on these misgivings, here's my latest topical tribute
song. The video will feature Mr Keith Flint dancing in a threatening way in
Stockwell Bus Garage, hanging mockingly from the back platform of a
Routemaster ("RM") as London whizzes by all speeded up behind him, or
silhouetted repeatedly against the flames of another burning bendi.

I'm the siren starter, fckin' blaze creator.
I'm the safety scandal, danger-illustrator.

(hey!)
engine trying to start
engine trying to start

I'm a firestarter, bendi firestarter.
You're the scared commuter, you'll get home much later.
I'm a firestarter, bendi firestarter.

I'm the bus you hated, RM-infatuated.
Yeah. I'm the smoke you tasted, plastic-seat-related.

You're the cycle-buyer, back-street route collator.

I'm the self-inflicted diesel detonator.
Yeah. I'm the heat reflected, twisted metal-maker.

I think Kendy Bus would sum it up well but it's a bit late now to make that
one stick. It's telling that this is one of the few policies where
Livingstone is not now promising a return to 2008.

I like 'em. I call it the Happy Happy Fun Bus.

That just reminds me of these from when I was growing up in Glasgow:

Meanwhile, the BBC are reporting that Saturday's fire might've been
arson:

That's a mark against what seem otherwise well-built buses - though
often with a dire interior layout.

I reckon that, more recently, Wrightbus's products are better.
Probably cheaper as well. Its predecessor, the O405, was (though it
looked a bit dated) a very well-designed bus.

Distinguishing "fell" and "jumped" is probably tricky, and I wouldn't
expect a news item for either.

Pushed would certainly hit the news.

There's a trickle of reports for things like pushchairs falling on the
track, or people tripping.

long vehicles really don't go with an old city with twisty narrow
streets

On the downside, Writebus have a very ugly look for their products.
