Default Tfl Christmas Travel Information

Does anyone know when TfL are planning to release their information on
what services they are going to run over the Christmas period?

Or are Tfl waiting for the result of the strike ballot on December
14th?

I don't know how this relates to the OP's enquiry, but it seems
tangentially relevant. The Journey Planner at http://journeyplanner.tfl
..gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en shows "Information
regarding services over the Christmas period will be available in mid-
December", if I ask for a journey from Stratford to Canary Wharf and
specify an arrival time on 28 Dec 2011.

If I use the large print version at journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/bcl/XSLT_
TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en to make the same enquiry, no information of
any kind is returned.
I think my report of this to the LU CSC was done, yesterday.

A fix has yet to arrive.

Presumably "mid December" then means about midnight on 24th December.

After all, Blackfriars tube station was supposed to open in "late
2011", and I saw a notice at Kings Cross this morning confirming that
it would open in "very late 2011" (ie 26 February 2012)

I thought I was cynical.

A few days ago, the planned closures showed Blackfriars opening in the
week before Christmas. It now shows it closed on Jan 6, 2012.
I was through there some days ago. A westbound District line train
announced the next stop is Blackfriars. An eastbound Circle line train
announced the next station is closed. LU did deliver the return of
Tottenham Court Road to the Northern line on the scheduled date of Nov
28.

I am not surprised there has been some slip in a 3 year program.
http://www.networkrailmediacentre.co.../COUNTDOWN-TO-
COMPLETION-AT-BLACKFRIARS-194f/SearchCategoryID-8.aspx
confirms 26 February.

Cough! Splutter! It's called Thameslink 2000, not Thameslink 2018 (the
latest date I think it's supposed to be finished). These people
*invented* slippage.

Today:
www.tfl.gov.uk/festivetravel

Full "Christmas and New Year travel guide" published - direct link to
the PDF:
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/festive-leaflet.pdf
(quite like the cover artwork)

TfL Journey Planner however not yet showing journeys over the
Christmas period (still says "mid-December").

Thank you.

I still think there is a case for running a bus service on Christmas
Day.

If there was a special service on all the night bus and 24 hour
routes, running from about 9am on Christmas Day, that would give
reasonable coverage to most areas.

The lack of public transport on Christmas Day is a real pain to those
who don't have a car.

Edinburgh has a skeleton service on Christmas Day, so I don't see why
it wouldn't work in London. Perhaps someone could sponsor free travel,
like they do on New Years Eve.

Thanks, Paul.
I suppose they will update the Journey Planners at some time.

The question is whether Edinburgh has any service on New Year's Day. That is
the bigger holiday North of the border.

Edinburgh does have a service on New Years Day

See

http://www.lothianbuses.com/images/s...s/XMAS2011.pdf

for details.

It includes, for example, a service to the Royal Infirmary, so that
people can visit someone in hospital.

I do think a similar level of service could be provided in London. I
have a copy of the leaflet "Buses Running in London on December 25th
2001", which was the last year there was any significant level of
service on Christmas Day.

It included service 729 from Wood Green to Streatham via day routes 29
and 159, service 712 from Peckham to Hammersmith via day route 12, and
service 755 from Central London to Wimbledon and Morden.

All routes ran every 30 minutes from about 9am to 8pm. No travelcards
were accepted, and there was a premium fare of £3.

I do think there is a case for doing something similar now.
