I'm surprised - and irritated - that a building like that and
so much land not far from Heathrow can remain idle and
dilapidated during today's housing crisis in the Home Counties.

It's 60 miles from Heathrow. Plenty of housing at Basingstoke (which is
in the exact same direction but only 20 miles from Heathrow).

Notwithstanding Roland's point

The pictures in question were taken in the 70s and one of the comments says
that the building was demolished shortly afterwards and is now "under" a
roundabout.

The nearest abandoned staion to Heathrow is probably Staines West etc.
