You couldn't make this up - especially as ColinR was saying only last weekend that his wife refuses to use the Ely - Cambridge RRP because last time she did, the bus got lost. At least it didn't take its top off by trying to go through a low railway bridge, as has happened with rail replacement buses in the past. Not too easy in Anglia, that one! Are there any roads that go under railways in Anglia? I'm not sure what the boundaries of Anglia are but does Roughton Road count where it passes under the line at Roughton Road station near Cromer? |

Not too easy in Anglia, that one! Are there any roads that go under railways in Anglia? Of course there are. There's a very low one next to Chelmsford station, for example. It's high enough for double-decker buses, which is fortunate considering the location of the bus station. But they have to go through the middle, so "alternate" working is required. -- Roland Perry |

All too often these problems come about because TOC managers fail to appreciate the complexities involved in providing bus replacement. On the face of it, it's all too easy to assume that any fool could drive a bus from say Coventry to Birmingham New St. But, try doing it via every local station, along the way, you probably couldn't find a more illogical road route. Some TOCs when they have pre-planned bustition run separate buses for through passengers and those wanting intermediate stations, sometimes with different buses picking up and dropping off at the intermediate stations so that they can meet trains at both ends of the blockade. I think I remember both GNER and Chiltern doing this. Roger |

Most of them are underpasses at level crossings, which are a bit obvious when it comes to height restrictions (or so we think - bashes are frequent). think theres more than we might guess, Anglia isnt as always flat as people can assume, train stations often seem to have been built up higher than the surroundings (possibly due to worries about flood risks), certainly the routes passes over several of the major roads in the region at least like the M25,A120,A14, Colchester north station is by a bridge with a road, there are probably plenty of other smaller stations with similar setups. |

OTOH East Anglia...... but does Roughton Road count where it passes under the line at Roughton Road station near Cromer? |

Chelmsford always used to have paint-scrapes under the railway bridge by the station, where the buses clipped it because they didn't stay between the markings. Strictly speaking, that isn't Anglia, of course ... It's served by Greater Anglia, and as far as most people are concerned East Anglia includes Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex. So Chelmsford counts. -- David Cantrell | Minister for Arbitrary Justice Featu an incorrectly implemented bug |
