The ASLEF territory of Northern line running well today - the live
service update page reckoned it was a 'Good service' when I looked on it
(and indeed it was when I used it, albeit outside the peak), though I
dare say it wasn't quite the same level of service as a normal day - and
there were plenty of Northern line stations closed too.

Report in the Evening Standard made the point that some stations which
it had been suggested yesterday evening would be open this morning were
not - specifically mentioning Canada Water and Finsbury Park.

A look a bit earlier this evening on the live update page showed a fair
number of LU managed interchange stations such as Canning Town and West
Ham being closed - and a bit surprisingly, Stratford being closed for
DLR services (I assume NR services still called there) - but I don't
know if it was a similar picture earlier during the day.

Did they manage to keep Bank open for the DLR for the duration?

Traffic was pretty terrible in parts of central London - the Euston Road
for one was moving at a slug's pace, Farringdon Road, Clerkenwell Rd,
Tower Bridge Road and elsewhere all v slow - I can't imagine that the
Strand, Charing X Road, Oxford Street or Gower Street were all that fun.

Alien buses seen on Euston Rd - non-red, single door, no obvious Oyster
kit so presumably a free ride for all. Stagecoach buses from Hampshire
on the 205, with bus number and destination on (laminated?) sheets in
the lower front window. Green and white Stephensons buses on the 91,
with incongruous looking LED blinds showing both number and destination.
Some other outfit, 'something Travel', orange? green & blue buses, whose
rear and I think side LED display just showed a scrolling message about
themselves - presumably something was on display somewhere on the front
of the bus.

Not that these buses were doing much good on the Euston Road at least -
from what I heard, it would have been rather quicker to walk!

Also an original Routemaster apparently in service on the route 38 - was
this so?

LU tickets were being accepted on the cable car - presumably this just
means single tickets and paper Travelcards, with Oyster PAYG users being
deducted the regular fare. What about season Travelcard on Oyster
holders? Besides, it seemingly wasn't working for much of the day
(weather related suspensions being pretty common, but not normally for
over 10 hours...):

https://twitter.com/EmiratesAirLDN/status/431113798133768193

(If the times are displayed oddly, then the first is timed at 0854 GMT,
the second at 1715 GMT.)

No major football matches this week - that's next week's fun, including
a big match on Wednesday at the ever so slightly public transport
dependent Arsenal stadium, featuring as guests the red team from Manchester.

They might perhaps have used some of the old handheld readers the
Route master conductors had?

Here's one from East Kent, also on the 205, that managed a destination
display:

Free ride -- the only benefit of a rail replacement bus!

I don't know, but the same Flickr stream includes a photo of an RT on
the 25 (although it's a very undercover 25):

That's a nice sight on a bad day to be going anywhere.

A friend of mine going from Angel to Charing Cross road around 18:30
last night reported being on a proper old-style routemaster. That's
likely to have been a 38.

More to the point they will be stopping at Finsbury Park which is the
official station for the Emirates.

Drayton Park station is literally "round the corner" from the Emirates
Stadium. Finsbury Park station is a long way off.

First, I assume you mean Holloway Road which is closer to one side of the
stadium. Drayton Park is closer to the other side. There are entrances and
exits on both sides.

Second, it may be that when the transport arrangements and plans were
originally devised, by people who quite possibly were never going to use them,
they decided upon Finsbury Park for the reasons you've mentioned; but we're
discussing improvised new arrangements by people who want to get to the
stadium by any workable route in difficult circumstances.

Someone travelling by London Overground to Highbury & Islington and
changing there would be ill-advised to chose Finsbury Park instead of Drayton
Park.

That's not the point. Caledonian Road is even closer than Drayton Park
but neither has the capacity to cope with the Emirates crowds. That is
why the travel plans agreed for the new stadium are designed to focus
trips on Finsbury Park.

Yes, my mistake. I usually see it from the ECML approach to King's Cross.

The travel plans will have been part of what I know from the leader of
Islington Council of the time was a convoluted planning process for the new
stadium and created in consideration of the potential overloading problems
the stadium could create. Finsbury Park is more accessible, including via
the GNCR so it seems to me the advice to use it is correct.
