For the passenger, the S stock is so good in comparison that I don't
think the C stock will really be missed.

Yes, and the C stock has been allowed to get quite shabby, so that won't
help. Unlike with the A stock, with its deeply cushioned transverse seats
and luggage racks, there's really no downsides for pax with the S replacing
the C stock. The new trains are air-conditioned, longer and have through
gangways.

About the only snag is for people like us who now have to read the
destination signs to know if it's a Wimbleware or City train (etc), rather
than simply recognising A, C or D stock and knowing which line it's on.

Railcar number? The third digit in an S-7 railcar's number is always 3.

It's less convenient than spotting A stock headlights from a distance, and
former C and D stock routes will all be S7s anyway.

Yes, there was something to be said about the headlights off of each train.

I understand the last trains run next week as 4 units go for scrapping
then. Last day looks like Monday 3 June 2014. Running number 074 is
apparently scheduled for C stock until 1339 (lunchtime).

When's D-Day, then?

Tuesday 3rd June not the Monday as I said before.

Or did he mean "When is the last day of running for D stock on the
District Line"? Last I heard it was 2016 so there's probably some flex
in that timetable.

Except when it's 4.

4 units is only a train and a bit, or do you mean (6-car) trains?

Even sooner than I was told then! Is that a Wimbleware working?

I think that's the only route they've been on for the last few months.

I vaguely thought so but haven't been in London on the tube much recently so
thought it best to check.

It was my first visit to Putney since late 2012. I see the train I took both
from Wimbledon to Wimbledon Park at 14:15 and from Wimbledon Park to East
Putney was 072. It had done a complete trip via Edgware Road and Wimbledon
while I was visiting my aunt for over an hour. According to WTT 145 it
wasn't quite running to timetable as I should have left Wimbledon at 14:08
and it arrived at Wimbledon Park the second time at 15:31:40 (timestamp of
photo taken of it arriving in the platform).

I thought Hounslow was asking when the final D stock run will be.

Well it's not at all clear to me what was being asked in the light of
the comments about D stock. D stock hasn't even been mentioned in the
context of stock withdrawals in the very near future.

The simplest answer re C Stock is "already stated. For D Stock last
day in service my answer is "haven't a clue".

;-)

Presumably Bombardier will continue building S7s without a break, now that
the C stock has all been replaced? If so, then the D stock will soon start
to leave. Of course, the depots aren't ready yet, which may cause a delay.

In message , at 10:10:25 on
Thu, 29 May 2014, David Walters remarked:
There is a farewell tour planned for June 29th
http://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/whats-on/e...hicles-outings

Tickets priced £40 will be on sale from 2 June

Departing from Moorgate, this official last C stock tour covers its former
territory, including the Hammersmith & City, Circle and District Lines
and finishes at Hammersmith. Passengers will have the opportunity to
visit the London Transport Museum pop-up shop at Barking Station during
the lunch stop over.

My ticket is booked (by lunchtime the front and rear coaches were
already fully booked; looking now, the 6-car train is about 65% booked).

Anyone up for a utl meet somewhere en-route?

The only problem now is that the trip starts at 09:55 and the first
train from the Cambridge area doesn't seem to get me there before 11:15,
although that's with the following comedy route according to NRES (is
the Circle/Met closed to normal trains?)

08:58 Ely [ELY] /FCC train/ London Kings Cross [KGX] 10:09
10:24 London Kings Cross [KGX] /Walk/ London St Pancras 10:25
10:42 London St Pancras /train/ Stratford International 10:48
10:53 Stratford International /Walk & Tube & DLR/ Moorgate 11:15
